Incorporating Delaney into our regular weekly activities and routine has been one of the many challenges that we knew we would have to quickly adjust to once she was home. This week has been our first that could be considered completely routine, without any additional, irregular help. And, I think we’ve done really well. Franny made it to her two days of school, Cole made it to swimming, and both made it to their gymnastics classes--all on time. Probably most significantly, all of us made it to playgroup this week. It’s the longest of our morning excursions-usually close to three hours—which is a large block of time for a newborn. And this week, it also was Delaney’s first time to the park, first time in a stroller, and first time out to eat. She napped for the first thirty minutes, but everything must just have been too much new, as she was awake, alert, and unfortunately, frequently upset for the rest of the time. In fact, she didn’t settle down for any extended period of sleep until three in the afternoon—that’s a tough day for this little girl. The rest of us, however, took it all in stride. We know that our ‘triple play’ days are going to be chaos at best with the all of my meticulous planning being thrown to the wind. But, in retrospect, it’s pleasantly surprising how much fun can be had when your only expectation is to survive.
